There's something magical about starting the school day with music especially in French class. For Grade 3/4 students, songs arenât just fun theyâre powerful tools for building vocabulary, improving pronunciation, and creating a positive, welcoming routine.
This fall, I've been using simple, cheerful French songs to begin each day with my Grade 3/4s, and the results have been fantastic! Here are a few of our favorites:
âCâest une belle journĂ©eâ â French Circles
This upbeat song sets a positive tone for the day. With lyrics like âtout le monde est de bonne humeurâ (everyone is in a good mood), students begin the day hearing and repeating joyful language. We discuss the weather and how weâre feeling, connecting song lyrics to real-life conversations.
âBonjourâ â Mini TFO
This fun and repetitive greeting song is perfect for welcoming students and setting a friendly atmosphere. It includes simple greetings like âBonjour, comment ça va?â and reinforces key phrases for morning routines.
Using songs to start the day has brought more joy, more French, and more smiles into our classroom. Whether you're teaching beginner French or strengthening skills in a French immersion class, music is a powerful way to bring language to life.
